Sedation Dentistry in Lyons Indiana

Whatever level of care is needed for our patients, we provide the most comfortable experience possible. By offering all forms of sedation dentistry, including IV sedation, you can be assured that you will receive the level of sedation that best fits your needs. All procedures requiring sedation are performed in our office in order to provide you with the greatest convenience and peace of mind. Dr. Gordon Green has extensive special training in sedation dentistry. In this country, less than 10% of dentists are qualified in sedation dentistry, so you can feel secure knowing you are in the care of one of the most experienced and highly trained doctors in the United States. Inhaled minimum sedation is commonly referred to as “laughing gas.” This type of sedation simply helps you relax and wears off quickly. You may drive home after this procedure. The gas is a mix of nitrous oxide and oxygen, administered with a mask.

Oral Sedation

Oral sedation can range from minimal to moderate degrees of sedation. You take a pill (triazolam, or Halcion) about 45 minutes before your procedure. The medication induces drowsiness, and, depending on the dosage, even sleep. If you do fall asleep, you can be easily woken with a gentle shake. You may not drive yourself home following oral sedation, so plan to make arrangements for alternate transportation. Triazolam has virtually no side effects, a short half-life, and is often prescribed by doctors treating patients for insomnia.

IV Sedation

IV sedation is simply administering the medication via IV so that it has the desired sedative effect faster than the oral method. The doctor will continually monitor you with a pulse oximeter, which measures heart rate and oxygen level. We also have a reversal agent in office that reverses the sedation effect in less than 30 seconds. You will be required to bring someone with you to transport you to and from your appointment, and remain in our office during your procedure. Our doctors and staff can answer any questions you may have and educate you further about sedation dentistry and which method will be best for you to put you at ease. We care about our patients and want to provide the best and most comfortable experiences for you.
